Here is a mystery our readers might help us with. This is one of the rarest International Harvester trucks we’ve ever come across. It is a 1957 mid-year edition or 1958 International A-110 Custom Cab 1/2-Ton Pickup, according to the information published by Krause Publications and the few Spotters Guides we could find on International trucks. The ad from Happy Days Dream Cars in Warrensburg, Missouri indicates that the truck was a 1959 production vehicle. The “A” stood for the Golden Anniversary edition because International Harvester had been around for 50 years at that point.
It was a pickup truck that IH would normally not have made. It was a “pretty” truck, more like a Chevy Cameo or Dodge Sweptline. The International A-110 Custom Cab designation indicates that it would have been a Heavy Duty 1/2-Ton. What we want to know from our readers is whether they think it is a 1957 1/2 model (essentially a 1958) or is it a 1959? They have all the documentation on the truck. If you have an opinion, please comment below. We need your input.
According to Happy Days Dream Cars this International A-110 Custom Cab has been well maintained it’s entire lifetime and comes complete with owner history since new. At the 100,000 marker the mechanicals were all totally rebuilt under the loving supervision of the owner. They say it was nicely restored using as much of the original interior as possible. Did you know IH had an overhead AM radio in those days? This one had it. It also still has an underdash flashlight, fire extinguisher and flare kit. Happy Days Dream Cars tells us it runs and drives like a new truck!
The engine is a Black Diamond 220 Inline 6-cylinder with a 3-speed automatic on the column. The engine bay and undercarriage look great in the photos. Must be a clean truck.
The exterior colors are Gulf Green with a Whitecap top. It came from the factory with sidemounted spare tires, chrome side mirros and optional 16″ wheel and tires package with center caps. Just a sweet ride for its time.
