A “Banshee” is an Irish folk spirit which is seldom seen and never captured. This 1964 Pontiac Banshee Prototype sports car is exactly that. John Delorean designed it and had it built as a concept car. But the XP-833 project, code name for this project, was canceled and never brought back even though it was one of the inspirations for the Pontiac Firebird later that decade.
This rare Pontiac concept car has been posted on the Cars On Line.com website. A 1964 Pontiac “Banshee” Prototype, has been listed for sale by Len Napoli of Napoli Classics in Milford, Connecticut. Newsletter readers will remember when we did a story on this car a few years ago. There were many versions of the Banshee mocked up at Delorean’s request, but only two of these concepts were ever developed into drivable cars. Both exist today in private collections. One is white, and the one you see here is the silver version owned and displayed at Napoli Classics in Connecticut. If you check the photos you will see that the rear valance is almost exactly that of the first generation Pontiac Firebirds.
